Towards Freedom

On December 6 2018, the 101th Independence Day of Finland, a march 'Towards Freedom!' was held in Helsinki, Finland. Around 300 people took part in the march, led by members of the banned Nordic Resistance Movement. 

Itsenäisyyspäivänä 6.12.2018 Helsingissä järjestettiin "Kohti Vapautta!" -marssi. Pohjoismaisen vastarintaliikkeen järjestämään kulkueeseen otti osaa noin 300 henkilöä. Kaisaniemestä Kallion kautta Töölöön kulkeneen marssin aikana poliisi otti kiinni neljä henkilöä ja poisti kolme natsilippua kulkueen kärjestä.

After few hundred meters, police stopped the march and surrounded the leading group.
With a swift movement the leading trio with flags met ground.

The Nordic Resistance Movement is against LGBT rights. The district of Kallio the march went through is not.

Chants of the march were often overwhelmed by the shouts and noises of onlookers.

The march ended up at a parking lot in Töölö.
Speeches were held in both Finnish and in English.
Media made live reports from the location.
Outside the parking lot people gathered to protest the march.
A light banner demanded 'independence back' and to fill support cards.
Supporters could leave their contact information for the organizers.
